A Slower Rhythm by the Ocean at Elements of Byron
If you’re looking for peace and quiet, you’ve come to the right place.
Set between coastal rainforest and the wide stretch of Belongil Beach, the award-winning Elements of Byron immediately feels removed from the pace of everyday life. Just outside the centre of Byron Bay, the property spans 50 acres of undisturbed beachfront landscape, where villas are softly spaced among native bushland and walking tracks lead directly to the ocean.
I arrived for a four-day Rebalance stay, drawn to the idea of having some structure to the day, but not too much. It’s a balance the property holds well as part wellness retreat, part coastal stay - offering a rhythm to follow if you want it, or the freedom to step away from it entirely.
Over a few days, the pace begins to shift almost without noticing. Mornings started with ease, time outdoors in the sunshine became a priority, and the days naturally opened up in a way that felt both simple and considered.

The Villas
Each villa on the property sits quietly within the landscape, spaced far enough apart to feel private, surrounded by native bushland and soft light filtering through the trees. There was an immediate sense of ease on arrival.
Inside, the design is relaxed and open. Natural materials, soft tones and a layout that allows air and light to move easily through the space. It feels connected to the environment rather than separate from it.
The private bathhouse in my luxury villa became a defining part of the stay. Set just off the main bedroom, it’s a generous space with a deep bath and shutters that open to the outside. It’s the kind of place you want to keep returning to.
There’s also a quiet attention to detail that reveals itself over time - good robes, beautiful amenities, and the option to walk or take a golf buggy ride when you feel like slowing things down even further.
Mornings at Elements of Byron
Mornings began early here, with the gentle sound of life in the rainforests.
Beachfront yoga is held just beside the ocean, simple in structure and made memorable by the setting. The sound of the waves, the open sky, and the feeling of being outside before the day fully begins was heaven.
Walking along Belongil Beach became part of my daily routine - unhurried, with no real destination.
Coffee follows naturally. The Botanica Beach Lounge became a favourite as somewhere to sit in quiet comfort and let the morning settle in.
Wellness and Rebalance
The Rebalance offering provides a loose framework of yoga, rainforest walks, meditation, spa treatments - while still leaving space to move through the day freely. Some moments are guided, others are left entirely open.
Walking through the rainforest tracks became one of the simplest ways to engage with the property. The paths move through native bushland and wetlands, offering a quieter, more grounded way to spend time.
The Osprey spa sat at the centre of this experience.
I highly recommend The Fifth Element Ritual. A two-hour treatment under expert hands that moves through a sequence of grounding, breathwork, facial and body work. It begins with a footbath, followed by guided breathing, then a Fire & Frost facial (my skin was glowing) and a full-body exfoliation and massage. Each part flowed into the next before finishing with a warm adaptogen elixir that brings the experience to a close. I floated out of the spa.
What one of my days looked like:
7.00am: Yoga at the Heart of the Bay
8.00am: Buffet breakfast (one of the best I’ve had) at Azure Bar and Grill
9.00am: Exploring the onsite trails through the wetlands, dunes, rainforest and eucalypt
12.00pm: Time to lounge at the Adults exclusive pool with lunch from the Mediterranean inspired food van.
3.30pm: The Fifth Element ritual at the Osprey Spa
6.00pm: Settling into my villa for some more R&R and a long soak in the bathhouse.
7.00pm: Dinner at the Azure Bar and Grill enjoying the delicious menu by executive Chef Craig Robertson
“What stays with you most is the setting. The property moves across four distinct landscapes including rainforest, wetlands, dunes and ocean which are all connected by walking tracks that invite you to explore without needing to go far.”
Dining
Dining settles easily into the rhythm of the day.
Azure Bar & Grill overlooks the pool and surrounding greenery, offering a relaxed setting that works at any time from long lunches to early evening dinners.
The menu is seasonal and grounded in local produce, with a strong focus on fresh seafood. I highly recommend the Hibachi Ballina Prawns, the melt in your mouth Lamb Rump with Warrigal Greens and finishing it off with the most divine chocolate Rainforest Floor Dessert.
A Mediterranean style lunch in a cabana by the adults exclusive pool also became a regular pause in the day, often stretching far longer than expected.
There are multiple places to spend time: the lagoon pool, adults-only pool with cabanas, grabbing a book from the library to read in a lounger, a hit at the tennis course, the beach, and quieter corners throughout the grounds.
Despite its scale, it never feels busy. The spacing of the villas and the openness of the landscape create a beautiful balance between movement and privacy.
Elements of Byron offers a version of luxury that feels easy rather than formal. And by the end, that glorious sense of ease is what stays with you when you leave.
It’s a place you’ll want to return to time and time again.
